About KRDP Jazz 90.7 FM
Our Mission
KRDP Jazz 90.7 FM enriches central Arizonans through educational, trauma-informed programming celebrating Arizona’s rich history as a cultivator of Jazz, Blues, R&B, and Soul music. In short, we aim to be the Valley’s Home for Jazz & Community.
KRDP Jazz 90.7 FM also has a dual role to serve as a radio broadcast voice for Black Arizona, providing a safe, culturally relevant space for persons of African descent to build community by sharing arts, culture, music and information.
Who We Are and What We Do
KRDP Jazz (KRDP 90.7 FM) is a Jazz, Blues & Soul music community radio station serving the eastern suburbs of the Phoenix, Arizona metro area. In addition to our primary Jazz/Blues/Soul format, our programming focuses on a mix of news, public affairs, and specialty programming primarily targeting Arizona’s Black and African-American community.
Launched in 2022, the KRDP Jazz 90.7 FM signal covers Apache Junction, Ahwatukee, Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, portions of southeast Phoenix, Queen Creek, San Tan Village, south Scottsdale, and Tempe. We are the first FM radio station in the Phoenix metro and the state of Arizona that is wholly-owned or controlled by African-Americans since the sale of Phoenix’s KMJK (106.9 FM) in January 2001.
KRDP Jazz 90.7 FM is operated along with our sister station KRDP Indie by Desert Soul Media, Inc., a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization, which provides trauma-informed multimedia literacy and technical training programs. Collectively, KRDP Jazz 90.7 FM and KRDP Indie are known as KRDP Community Radio.
Our Programming Philosophy
KRDP Jazz 90.7 FM’s programming philosophy focuses on the acquisition and development of quality, innovative content that furthers the station’s mission.
To that end, we seek programs that:
• Document the history of Black people in Arizona and the Southwest;
• Document the history of Black music in Arizona and the Southwest;
• Increase public access to progressive ideas, viewpoints and issues;
• Respect the rich diversity of our local and global community;
• Provide news coverage of Black people and other underrepresented groups;
• Showcase work by Black artists, musicians and other underrepresented creatives; and
• Encourage the educational, artistic and experimental uses of radio.
If you live in the Phoenix metro area or central Arizona, and are interested in becoming a volunteer host, feel free to sign up for one of our upcoming new volunteer orientations.
